Happenings Summer 2017

  • The Lend A Hand Project held its annual Spring Gala on Sunday, April 30th at Cold Spring Country Club, with the theme “All You Need Is Love…and, of course, a little help from our friends.” The event, which honored Anthony Viola, CPA—the National President of the Cooley’s Anemia Foundation—was a tremendous success. In addition to raising much-needed funds, we were able to add six new Sponsor families! Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this great event!
  • We welcome our newest corporate Sponsor, I.J. Morris Funeral Home.
  • In the past months our Speakers Bureau has reached out to several community fraternal organizations. We have had the opportunity to present The Lend A Hand Project to Rotary, Lions, and Kiwanis chapters and have received a warm response to our Sponsor–Recipient program. Presently, two families are being sponsored by a member of the Babylon Rotary as a direct result of our presence at their meeting.
  • Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza in Woodbury generously invited us to participate in their charitable gift program this past May. During the five Tuesdays in the month, 20% of the receipts of patrons who identified themselves as supporters of our organization were donated to us. Many thanks to General Manager Phil DiNatale, as well as Ron and Paula Jasser for making this happen. Watch your future e-mails – we will be doing this again!
  • The value of The Lend A Hand Project is confirmed by the increasing number of referrals from other social service agencies and professionals. This, of course, necessitates an increasing need for new Sponsors. If you are a Sponsor, please tell your family, friends, and colleagues about our program, and perhaps even consider sponsoring an additional individual or family yourself. Our case manager, Ellen Acosta, looks forward to hearing from you. She can be reached by e-mail at eacosta@lendahandproject.org or by phone at 631-486-6636 ext 1.
  • Remember, if you are an Amazon shopper, be sure to go to Smile.Amazon.com for all your online shopping and specify The Lend A Hand Project as your charity to support. It costs you nothing and the donation from Amazon really adds up. Please encourage your friends and family to do it as well! If you have any questions about getting started, contact our Executive Director, Andy Levy, at ALEVY@LendAHandProject.org .
  • Finally, at the end of the day, comments like this one from one of our Recipients remind us why The Lend A Hand Project is so important: “As we were walking home, my eight-year-old son Jonathan said, ‘Mommy how lucky we are to have (The Lend A Hand Project) in our lives because it allows us to have simple little things like ice cream, which all my friends always get to have’.”
