Who We Are & What We Do

The Lend A Hand Project, formerly M’Yad L’Yad–Long Island’s Helping Hands, is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping men, women and children living below the poverty line on Long Island.

The nucleus of The Lend A Hand Project is our Sponsor-Recipient Program—a unique initiative pairing individuals or families (Sponsors) with those in need (Recipients). However, what makes this program so different from others is that the pairings are done anonymously. Why is this so important? The answer is very simple—while we feel it’s great to provide monetary and material assistance to our Recipients, it is equally important to help them maintain their dignity.

Currently, The Lend A Hand Project is changing the lives of more than 1,000 people across Long Island. These are people who need to make the choice between putting dinner on the table, or purchasing a winter coat for their children. No one should have to ever make that choice!

Sponsors and Recipients are fully vetted and paired with each other by our professional Case Manager, who will help to guide you through the entire process. When you volunteer to be a Sponsor with The Lend A Hand Project, you become a member of a larger family, working together to help others.

Of course, The Lend A Hand Project also accepts monetary donations, which go directly toward one of our many programs, all helping to enhance the lives of those in need on Long Island. For more information on how you can help, please visit the ‘Our Programs’ section of this website.
