Welcome To Our Newest Board Member!

We welcome Christine Curcio Smith to The Lend A Hand Project’s Board of Directors. She is a manger of a team of Senior Customer Service Executives for the Zurich Insurance Company. Her business expertise and perspective, as well as her volunteer work, will certainly be a great asset for us. Welcome, Christine!

BACK PACKS FULL OF SUCCESS

Once again, with the support of UJA’s Supplies for Success Program and the Novitz/ Robins Family, The Lend A Hand Project was able to provide all of our 215 school age children with grade appropriate school supplies for the start of the school year. A special thanks to Rondiene Novitz and her staff for facilitating this essential projects.

CRAFTING FOR A PURPOSE

Many thanks to our friends at the Sewing Club of the Middle Country Library, who knit handmade wheelchair bags. We have donated those bags to the Long island State Veteran’s Home. The bags enable our veterans who are chair-bound or use walkers to easily carry their personal belongings, enhancing the quality of their daily lives.

STEPPING OUT OF THE TOWN

In August, a group of Sponsors enjoyed a fabulous afternoon performance of Legally Blonde at the recently restored Argyle Theater in Bablylon. The production was terrific and a good time was had by all. We repeated our experience in October by going to see the Argyle’s newest production, The Full Monty. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales of both shows benefited The Lend A Hand Project. Thank you to Paula and Ron Jasser for making this happen.

THURSDAYS AT ANTHONYS

Thursday in October are for Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza in Woodbury. Lunch, dinner or take-out, Anthony’s CFP donates 20% of every sale to the Lend A Hand Project. Just mention LAHP to your server. Thank you to ACFP in Woodbury for supporting our work.

NEW RECIPIENTS

The Lend A Hand Project has recently invited five families to join our Recipient roster. This includes 11 children under the age of 19. Each family has a unique and compelling story. However, all share the same need for our concern and friendship. Please join our Sponsorship program. You can make it possible for these Recipients to know that they have the help of friends in the community. Contact our Case Manager Ellen Acosta for more information at eacosta@lendahandproject.org or by calling our office 631-486-6636 ext 1.

ACT OF KINDNESS

Recently, a new community project to provide much needed household items to a homeless family who are now settled in suitable, safe housing, was formed. Everyone stepped up to provide those in need with basics to furnish her new home. One of our Sponsors, who was aware of their Recipient’s passion for Yankees, was able to provide a day at Yankee Stadium. He stated “wow, what a joy.” New outfits were distributed to many Recipient children entering school who lacked appropriate attire. “Who doesn’t like to feel pretty on the first day of school,” responded Recipient Michelle.

NURSING HOME PROGRAM

Our support of nursing home residents at the Long Island State Veterans Home an the Huntington Hills Center for Health and Rehabilitation continues to draw praise from many sources. These residents have little or no outside family support, and the friendship extended to them through our financial support has enhanced their quality of life.  Visit our website to help support this program, or any of our many programs.
