Happening Spring 2019

Here’s what’s going on at The Lend A Hand Project:

  • DON’T MISS THE FIESTA! On Sunday, May 5th
The Lend A Hand Project will be celebrating Cinco
de Mayo in style! Please join us from 4 PM to 7 PM
at Cold Spring Country Club, as we honor Dr.
Richard and Mrs. Judy Berg. This promises to be a
joyous event with great food, exciting raffle and
auction prizes, Salsa dancing, and piñata bashing.
For more information, please visit our website at
    www.lendahandproject.org

  • NEW PROGRAM: The Lend A Hand Project has been able to extend the nursing
home program to Long Island State Veteran’s Home in Stony Brook. Thank you
to Michael Weiner and Marilyn Leibowitz for spearheading this effort. Resident
veterans who have no outside support will receive funding for items that they
cannot currently afford from the small monthly Medicaid allowance. Thank you
also to Lisa Cirami, the Director of Social Work at the Long Island State
Veteran’s Home, for helping to get this project off the ground.

  • 100 WOMEN WHO CARE: Thanks to an impassioned presentation by Robyn
Weiner, The Lend A Hand Project will once again receive monetary support
from the Long Island charitable organization, 100 Women Who Care. We thank
them for their confidence in The Lend A Hand Project’s mission

  • THE GAP: Once again, through the efforts of Old
Navy in Commack, the Gap Corporation
acknowledged The Lend A Hand Project
    organization with a generous donation.
  • BLING SHOPPING: David Grossman of Whitman Jewelry & Coins will
make a donation to our organization if you mention The Lend A Hand
Project, for all purchases through the end of June. Thank you to David
for this most generous gesture. Whitman Jewelry & Coins is located at
552 Walt Whitman Road in Melville.

  • MANGIA! For five Tuesdays in April, The Lend A
Hand Project will receive proceeds from
Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza on Jericho Turnpike in
Woodbury. Mention The Lend A Hand Project on a
Tuesday in April and the organization will receive
20% of any dine in or take out order. A great
excuse to stuff yourself! Please note that this is
    EXCLUSIVELY at the Woodbury location

  • SENIOR CITIZENS NEED OUR HELP: Citizens on Long Island are in desperate
need of Sponsors from The Lend A Hand Project. Thirteen individuals continue
to await Sponsor matches. Four are senior citizens with chronic health issues
and disabilities who struggle mightily to meet their needs: Sylvia (age 84),
Patricia (age 79), Helene (age 63) and Elisa (age 63). Unfortunately, none of
these senior citizens have a supportive network of family, friends or neighbors
to call upon for support and friendship and they suffer from social isolation. The
remaining individuals-in-waiting are all over age fifty and have debilitating
disabilities – both physical and emotional – that render them permanently
disabled and unable to work to support themselves. They live in subsidized
housing and receive SNAP benefits, which have been drastically reduced due to
recent budget cuts. While many of our wonderful Sponsors prefer to support
single parents with young children, this overlooked group of needy Long Island
seniors would be very grateful for the support and concern of caring Sponsors.
